Merry Christmas

After a brief bit of trolling on my Facebook wall over my throw away comment that “Christmas was over…” I decided that I needed to post this little clip as a reminder that Christmas is indeed not over until after the Feast of the Epiphany.

This clip is also in response to Fr Corrigan and Blog of a Country Priest who posted another version of the same song, which just made me remember this performance from this years Carols by Candlelight.

Each year Silvie Paladino performs at Melbourne’s Carols by Candlelight of Christmas eve. In what is a very secular Melbourne  Christmas tradition, Silvie each year never fails to speak proudly about the true meaning of Christmas and this year between her two carols she said:

” This Christmas I pray that your hearts will be blessed with the love and peace that only God can give you at Christmas and Beyond”

As far as I saw, the only mention of God (outside the lyrics of a carols ofcourse).

She then proceeded to sing her next carol ‘O Holy Night’  which in my opinion was the best number of the night.  It must pay to believe what you are singing.

One Response to Merry Christmas

Good to read this, a bit belatedly but it makes all the more sense after the woeful if expected treatment of Christmas by the Melbourne Age. Falling over backwards to avoid any mention of God ( or even of ‘god’-the preferential use of the secularists) it managed to waffle on inoffensively about good will and peace and so on, while promoting in various articles some smug secularist stuff about how, of all things, atheists can enjoy Christmas in a more meaningful way…! Then, of course, they generously allowed a few aggrieved Christians a bit of space to complain in letters, but followed these with an avalanche of sneers and jibes from the usual anti-faith brigade. A cynic would say that they are catering to their regular demographic – inner city dwelling Green voters or soft Left supporters who according to the census figures, are most likely to register as having no religious beliefs.
The populist standpoint of the rival New Ltd Tabloid, while based on sensational headlines and superficial attention grabbing crime stories, at least acknowledges that the majority of citizens is still Christian and does not attempt to denigrate their faith. Christmas is reduced to consumerist materialism and the odd good news story about charities, true, but the spiritual dimension is not totally lacking.
    What a woeful choice!
